What Causes Stomach Cramping With High Blood Sugar During A Pregnancy?

Hi. I am 21 weeks pregnant. I was seen yesterday in the L&D by my OB. I was and still am experiencing stomach cramping. They said I had sugar in my urine a good amount, and so today I took my blood sugar level and it was at 199 and the only thing i had ate all day was a bowl of cherios. May I add it was 7:30pm when I checked it. Does one have to do with the other and should I return to the hospital?

Hi,

It looks like you had an urinary tract infection, which caused the cramping.
It is common to have urine infection in pregnancy, and also more common if you have a increased sugar in your blood.

Please get your urine routine microsscopy and culture and sensitivity done. Also ,get antibiotics if infection and /or pus cells are identified.
Get your blood sugars evaluated again and if found to be high ,you will need to start Diet ,exercise ,oral hypoglycemic drugs like metformin and sometime even insulin injections.
Close monitoring of your pregnancy will be required.

Hope this helps
Regards.
