Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 17year old daughter was diagnosed with Achalasia 2 years ago. She s had 2 balloon dilations but is having problems again. At the last dilation, the doctor told us afterwards that it didn t really need doing and thought the problem might be higher up in the gullet. We were told to see how things went. After 5 months she s started complaining of chest pains which she also feels in her throat, headaches, feeling full quite quick (she hasn t eaten a decent meal since being diagnosed, even after the 2 dilations), burping alot, coughing and feeling very tired during the day. I ve tried to make an appointment for a chat about her symptoms with the consultant but he just referred her for another dilation, but I think they should take another look in the gullet. I m worried there s something else going on in there. Any ideas?
Recurrent dilation is the best way in achalasia, but if there is severe symptomatology intermittently, one should opt for nerve study, tonometry and other co-related evaluation to think in a different perspective for more better results.
