I am 56 years old and have no signs of menapause such as heavy sweating or anything that goes along with menapause. I have not had a period in 3 years. but recently i have been experiencing a light pink spot when i urinate. I have noticed it twice within the last couple of months. nothing runny just when i wipe myself i see this. is that normal for my age?

Hello,

Since you do not have periods since 3 years, you are in perimenopausal / menopausal phase. In this phase of a woman's life, pinkish spotting or bleeding is commonly indicative of vaginal dryness, polyps (non-cancerous growths) or atrophic changes in your reproductive system. Lower estrogen levels may cause spotting that may be slightly differently colored from light (pinkish-gray) to brown or even resemble a regular period.

It occurs due to atrophic vaginitis, endometrial atrophy, or from polyps(cervical or uterine). In about 10% of women, bleeding after menopause is a sign of uterine cancer. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist or urologist. Get a urinalysis (C/S and R/E), CBC, perivaginal examination, Hb%, ultrasonography of the uterus to do a detailed study so that treatment if required can be started at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
