What Causes Stringy Mucus Discharge From Anus After Passing A Stool?

i had globs of very sticky, stringy mucus when i wiped my anus, after passing a stool. this has never happened before. the appearance of the mucus concerned me. i have read that mucus can appear in stools for many reasons, but is it always stringy? is that normal?

Hi,

I understand your concern.

Mucus in stool is suggesting inflammation of bowel. If constipated, hard stool might have lacerated anal mucosa, leading to inflammation and mucus in stool.

Other causes could be inflammatory bowel disease that is confirmed by colonoscopy.

Increase fluids and fiber intake and keep good anal hygiene.

If mucus will still be present, lab tests (stool examination) an colonoscopy to run next.

Wish fast recovery.
