What Causes Substantial Weight Gain In Mid Section Of The Body?

Hi, I had a laparotomy to remove 3 cysts from my womb 6 months ago. I am a healthy, active 32 year old, but have put on substantial weight only around my mid section and lower hips - I have reduced calorie intake, increased cardio and core training but it can not shift the extra weight (have gone up a dress size on my lower half, no change up top). Is this a common problem?

Hi,

Thank you for trusting us in HCM. It is a common problem with age and hormonal changes women tend to notice differences in the distribution of fat in the body and usually it concentrates in hips and lowers part of the body. Nevertheless under controlled diet and exercise the problem should be solved. Please refer to your primary care physician and ask for a hormonal workup for the thyroid gland.

Best regards,
Dr. Nazzal
