What Causes Sudden Chills And Low Body Temperature?

My elderly father became cold this AM and has been shaking for 1 hr despite every effort to warm him up. His temp is 98 and I can t get his pulse b/c of shivering motion. He is on multiple meds for Alzheimer s but the only new (1 week) one is Xanax which he took 0.25 today.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Causes of chills without fever is exposure to cold climate or hypothyroidism or hypoglycemia or emotional reaction or malnutrition or heat exhaustion or reaction to medication side effects. Use blankets for shivering, avoid air-conditioning exposure , check for drugs like herbal supplements or over counter medication. If symptoms not improved please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
