Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Dizziness In An Elderly Person?
I have been experiencing a dizzy sensation for a couple of days. It comes and goes quickly. Happens when I change positions (stand from sitting) or it can happen when I m standing still. I am 67 yr old female, excellent health. Normal blood pressure, physically active.
I've read your query and I understand your concern.
After going through your query I would like to tell you that your symptoms are suggestive of Postural Hypotension . It happens when you stand up, gravity causes blood to pool in your legs and abdomen and causes decrease in blood pressure.
For occasional symptoms you need not worry and keep yourself Hyderated and don't directly get up from lying position. Stretch your calf muscles for a while then get up.
If your symptoms are frequent then you should personally consult with a physician and get yourself evaluated for underlying Heart disease (if there is any ) or endocrine disorder.
Persistent Postural hypotension can lead to syncope(falls), stroke and heart diseases.
Hopefully this will help you with your query.
Wish you Good Luck Dr Navneet Mahajan
