Hello and Welcome to Ask a Doctor:
Your current HbA1C is ok. Your current TSH is within normal limits. Your diet prior to a cholesterol test may affect the fasting cholesterol results. Many people coming home from a vacation to have their cholesterol checked will find it much higher than normal. You should have it checked after a pattern of normal eating. Your glucose, however, should have been handled by the insulin and at 5.85 show you were in the pre-diabetic range.

My advice is to follow a preventive lifestyle plan now to avoid future problems with your blood sugar and heart. This would be a calorie controlled, carbohydrate controlled, high fiber healthy meal plan that incorporates fresh fruits and vegetables along with whole grains with a limited amount of fat and exercise 150 minutes per week. This may allow you to avoid having to take a medication eventually such as Metformin for your blood sugar or a Statin for high cholesterol.

Thank you for your question and I hope I have answered your query completely.

Warmly,

Kathy Shattler, MS, RDN
