What Causes Sudden Numbness In The Body And Ear Congestion?

My 85 year old mother had an episode during the evening while she was asleep in a chair in the hospital staying with her husband. She is in great health, but said she woke up and felt like she couldn t move and she peed in her pants, she apparently went back to sleep and woke up in the morning and had to clean herself up. The only lingering symptom was her ears were completely stopped up. My fear is did she possibly have a mini stroke, I don t want to overlook something.

Hello,

From the history you are giving me there is the risk of her having had a transient ischeamic attack (TIA) which is similar to a stroke but recovers within 24 hours. She should be seen investigated for stroke with blood tests, CT scan of the brain and other tests as found by her physician. She might need to be started on treatment for stroke such as clopidogrel.

Kind Regards
