What Causes Sudden Painful Boil On The Sternum And Chin?
Hi, My sister is 68 years old and last week developed a painful boil in the area of her mid section just below her sternum. We were relieved when it seemed to drain and is a bit better, although not gone. What is disturbing is that yesterday she developed another such painful boil on her chin. The appearance of a second one scares me. I can t imagine what could be wrong with her. Do you have any ideas?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history your sister is having a furuncle, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream.
3. Take a NSAID like Ibuprofen.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin and Azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
