hi,
I read through your question and understood your problem.
-In older ages , falls may occcur due to various reasons:
If I were your treating physician I would consider:
-(considering his age ) I would like to see if any minimal blood clot is present in his brain or any degenerative changes.
by a m.r.i brain and a carotid doppler.
along with this, I would rule out if he is having any other factors that may be responsible for falls:
- checking his B.P. (low or high , both are causes for giddiness)
- muscle power and strength
- blood sugar,
cholesterol,homocysteine
(this will tell us the current status and future risk of
stroke)
- one of the main reasons for fall in elderly is loss of sense of balance this may be due to age related degeneration of a
nerve in the ear.
this results in both minimal
hearing loss and loss of sense of balance. This is one reason for fall that is most often overlooked but important.
a
audiometry test can confirm the results
If this is the reason for falls ,treatment is effective.
-one more reason I would like to look for is cervicalspondylosis,( it is a condition where the bones in the spine of the neck region get eroded and cause changes that decrease blood flow to the brain and cause falls, and on a prolonged basis may cause minimal damage to the brain).
-don't worry, once you get a proper diagnosis.you will be more confident about your husband recovery ma'am.
take care
wish ur husband a speedy recovery..!!
