What Causes Swelling And Bruising Around The Area Of Blood Withdrawal?

I good a blood test 2 days ago and it was really sore afterwards for a long time. It swelled up around it rather big and bruised pretty much straight away witch is odd for me. I woke up thismorning and noticed that my arm and my hand are fairly stiff and a decent amount of my arm feels swollen, also the feeling isn t very good almost numb and very tinggley and also feels rather hot. What is this and should I go to the hospital?? Please help! Demi

It is likely that there is trauma to the surrounding soft tissue when the needle was used to withdraw the blood.

Based on the symptoms of increased warmth, swelling and tenderness, it is possible that you may now have cellulitis. Cellulitis is a bacterial infection affecting the skin and underlying tissues.

You should visit your doctor for an assessment. If it is cellulitis then antibiotics would be needed.
