What Causes Swelling And Bruising Between Calf And Shin After An Injury?

I was hit with a softball in my leg between the calf and shin. (I assume its the shin bone? ) Anyway, it swelled and bruised immediately I continued to play. Put ice on it that night seemed to be ok. Just thought it was like any other bruise. This happened on Friday and today (Monday,3days later) its VERY sore. Swollen. Bruised and pain radiates to my ankle and foot. Im debating on going to the Dr just to make sure its ok. But i also dont want to look like a fool going in and it just being a bruise. What should I do?

Thanks for your query.

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . SWelling might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood).
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
In the interim,apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
