What Causes Swelling And Itching At PICC Line Site?

I had a picc line for roughly a months time about 14 months ago. To this day the entry location of my picc line is highly sensitive. Things that I used to never been sensitive to are now suddenly and randomly causing my picc line area to puff up and itch. Why is this? Is this normal?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having irritant dermatitis at peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion sites, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm B cream.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
