What Causes Swelling And Pain In Quadricep After An Injury?
Hi My son got hit in the quad very hard in a football game yesterday. It is extremely swollen and painful but there doesn t seem to be any sign of bruising. We have iced and taken ibuprofen but it seems to be continuing to swell. Do muscles usually briose when they get hit hard like this or is it a possible femur fracture?

Hello, Thanks for your query. since you have injured your thigh , since the bone underlying happens to be femur its very strong and very unlikely that you have sustained any fracture or ligament tear .
It is most likely a muscle injury and hematoma that is leading to the problem . First I would advise you to get an X ray of thigh to see if there is any fracture , if thats ruled out there is nothing much to worry .You should take naproxen 500 mg twice daily which is an antiinflammatory , it will reduce the swelling and accelerate healing .For some days you should take rest and avoid moving the leg . But in case its a fracture you will need to see a doctor for this.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
