What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Legs After Using Amlopres AT?
Hi Doctor, My dad is diabetic and he is also suffering from BP problem . From last 6 months he is having swelling in both the feet. Is this because of the medicine Amlopress AT . As he left this medicine for a while and the swelling disappeared but his BP went high and it doesnt come down with any other medicine . So we are assuming that Amlopress is the reason behind the swelling . Also after visiting few docs they are assuming that its affecting kidney as well .please advise.
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Yes it is true that swelling of the feet is a common Amlodipine (AMlopress) side effect, happens in as many as 10% of the patients. He can change the medication though, no need to stick with it by all means.
One option would be to try a drug of the same group with less swelling side effects like Lercanidipine. If that still causes swelling there are other classes of drugs for blood pressure which he could use instead, like beta-blockers (bisoprolol, metoprolol), ACE inhibitors (ramipril, lisinopril), ARBs (irbesartan, valsartan) or diuretics.
I hope to have been of help.
