What Causes Swelling And Red Sore In Right Tonsil?

I have a swollen (slightly) right tonsil with a red sore that bled just a bit. What are the likely causes? It started as a very mild irritation a week ago and has progressed to its current state with some discomfort but no fever or swollen lymph nodes.

Can understand your concern..

As per your query you have inflammation in your tonsils which is causing you pain, swelling and bleeding.
It may be due to a viral or a bacterial infection..
Mostly viral tonsillitis is resolved itself within 5 to 10 days.

I would suggest you to consult a doctor and get evaluated for the kind of infection you have which is causing you the problem..
In case of viral infection the treatment is based on relieving the symptoms..
In case of bacterial infection antibiotics are given along with other measures to relieve the swelling,pain and discomfort.

Do warm saline gargles.
Take soothing lozenges three to four a day to relieve irritation.
Avoid spicy and hard food.
Drink lots of water to keep yourself well hydrated preferably luke warm water.
If you have pain Ibuprofen or Tylenol can be taken..
