Hi i am a carer for the elderly and i have a client who has been suffering from a skin condition in the lower leg for over a year now which has not cleared up. Both her lower legs from the ankles to underneath her knees are swollen and extremeley red... the skin is hot to touch and is very thick and hard also. Her skin cracks and flakes away which results in bleeding and seeping... her bandages are constantly soaked in yellowish discharge and blood and the nurses have been out on numerous occasions and have not succeeded to clear it. Her legs are washed once a week and creamed every day with epidermal cream but still they are in a dreadful state... she does not seem to feel any pain only extreme itchiness. She has never been referred to a doctor or dermatologist for this (as far as i know) and i have seen similar conditions in other clients but not nearly and severe as those clients are treated and seen by doctors on a regular basis so i cannot be sure it is the same thing. If you had any advice on what this might be so that i can be aware of what i am dealing with and take it to my supervisor it be a great help.... thanks...
