What Causes Swelling And Stinging In My Eye?

On Tuesday I took a shower with my contacts by accident and I only noticed when water went in my eye. My right contact came off and I took off the left one after my shower. It was hard but I took it off. they were dailies so I threw them out and put new ones. The next day I had a swelling and stinging in my eye with a really bad headache. It s Friday and I still have the swollen feeling and some pain.since Tuesday , I haven t worn any contacts. should I be worried ?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes while removing the contacts, the cornea can get abraded. This can cause pain. Lubricating eye drops and patching of the eye overnight usually helps. For persistent redness/pain/watering do consult an ophthalmologist lest it turns out to be a corneal ulcer( though chances are less). Try the lubricating eye drops an ointment and patch the eye over night, if the symptoms do not disappear the next morning then visit an ophthalmologist.
