What Causes Swelling In Knee When Standing For Long?
I am a nurse, work at a nursing home, worked third shift and had no problems, but when I went to first shift, I stayed on my feel a lot more and the first day my knee swelled up so badly, was painful, it went down at night, swelled up again next day. It swells whenever I stand for long, I haven t had any injuries to it. What could be wrong?
It looks from your details that you may be having synovitis of knee. The synovitis can be due to injury ,infection ,inflammation or excessive strain at your knee.
In your case it looks that excessive strain is leading to inflammation. You should do following to have relief-
-If your overweight then reduce your weight.
-Start doing some exercises which strengthen your muscles around the knee. You may learn from here
-www.orthoboneadvice.blogspot.com
-Take a mild anti inflammatory agent like preparation of aceclofenac on prescription.
-Take frequent breaks from long standing.
-There are some preparations like chondroitin ,glucosamine and collagen which can be helpful for you.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
