What Causes Swelling In Leg After An Injury?

I fell 5 feet and my leg landed on a metal bar. My leg all the way around including my foot was severely bruised and swollen. That was about 5 weeks ago. My leg is still swollen in my foot and calf and I have a rock hard spot on my calf where it hit. Is this normal 5 weeks after the injury?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
It is not normal to have so much swelling and pain even after two months. it can be either due to severe muscle injury , or infection or a hair line fracture. So I would suggest you to sow it to orthopaedic surgeon and get clinical examination done. Also get x ray of the leg done. If there is any pus discharge is coming then it will needed daily dressing and cleaning of the wound. I would also suggest you to get blood investigations so that we can confirm if there is any infection is there is the blood. If there is any sign of the infection than you will also need to take full course of broad spectrum antibiotics.
