What Causes Swelling In Neck And Difficulty In Swallowing While Treating Thyroiditis?
I found out I had infectious thyroiditis in October. My tsh was8.3. I was put on .50mcg of levo. my tsh is now 2.9. I am still suffering with swollen neck glands, painful neck, trouble with swallowing. Could I possibly have an abscess? I can hardly stand it anymore.
Actually you are getting treated for underactive thyroid. Usually it is caused by an autoimmune chronic process and does not cause pain.
The symptoms you described are suggestive of subacute thyroiditis, caused by a viral infection. It is treated with non steroid inflamators ( ibuprofen) or when the pain is not controlled with them, corticosteroid therapy is taken into consideration.
The absces of the thyroid, usually is associated with fever. Anyway the diagnosis is based in clinical examination, thyroid ultrasound, full blod count and a scintiscan is of help.
Hope i have answered to your query.
