What Causes Swelling In The Ankles While On Zithromycin?
YYYY@YYYY question...my ankles are swelling...i am taking zithromycin 250 mg for upper respitory infection...i also started taking amlodopine two weeks ago for high bp....which or is it a combo causing the swelling....I see that amlodopine does cause swelling, but it started when I started the zithromycin/. thank you
Based on the history you seem to have developed ankle edema (swollen ankles) apparently caused by the blood pressure lowering medication Amlodipine ( a calcium channel blocker) which is also known to cause constipation, flushing, and increased heart rate.
The Zithromycin is generally a safer antibiotic commonly prescribed to treat susceptible infections like upper respiratory infection. However, it may cause vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
It is not known to cause edema (swollen ankles).
I advise you to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to control the high blood pressure.
Hope I could answer your query. A feed back is appreciated.
