Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain swelling in front of the ear can be due to infection and inflammation in the
Parotid gland and as the immunity of the toddlers is low they are more prone to get infections..
The infection in Parotid gland can be either bacterial or viral in nature but the viral infection causing
Mumps is mostly bilateral, so there is a possibility that your son has got a bacterial infection of the Parotid gland and for which he is advised to take antibiotics..
I would suggest you to continue his medication for 5 days and in case if there is no improvement or the symptoms worsen consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do investigations like Saliva culture, saliva
amylase levels and confirm further..
In case if there is improvement continue the medications as advised..
Do cool compresses over the swelling..
Feed him with plenty of water and fluids and a
soft diet..
Give him sufficient rest..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.
