What Causes Swelling In The Eyelids?

My friend has been having allergic reactions to possible food he eats and his eyes lids become very swollen. Says they don’t hurt but it looks terrible. Ate pistachios and cereal today and started noticing the swelling which continued to worsen. His wife got some Benadryl for him and used ice packs for a while. They have gone down tonite. Just started having this problem less than two years ago. He is a diabetic and has high blood pressure. What causes this?

Swollen eye in a diabetic patient would mostly point to a kidney involvement and I would advise you to undergo kidney function tests that is urea and creatinine and then consult a nephrologist. One more organ which causes eye swelling is liver but that is most common in alcoholics as they mostly have liver damage.
