What Causes Swelling In The Right Knee And Thighs?

I am 70 and had my right leg ( including knee and thigh) swell up. I went to ER and they said it was fluid retention but had no idea what caused it. They checked for blood clots and found none. What type of doctor should I see for this. The ER room was in a small town that I was visiting so I don t have much faith in what they said.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If this is the single leg affected then it may be something else but it may not be the fluid retention but deep vein thrombosis needs to be ruled out and for that you can see the peripheral vascular surgeon but before that it is advisable to get done CT study of venous system of leg including Doppler study.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Akhtar Husain
