Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Is he on any drugs?? is he alcoholic??
Swelling of upper body due to superior vena cava syndrome seen in mediastinal tumor s or lung tumors lead to blockade of venous drainage from head and neck lead to edema. Other possibilities like lymphatic block of upper limb or anemia or cardiac or renal problems etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.
Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
