What Causes Swelling In The Wrist While On Levaquin?
I HAVE A SWOLLEN WRIST AND HAND AND THE SKIN IS SLIGHTY RED AND IT IS VERY PAINFUL. I WAS PRESCRIBED LEVAQUIN AND HAVE READ THE WARNING SHEET. I HAVE HEART FAILURE AND A FIB. IAM ON MANY MEDS ALREADY BUT AM CONCERNED MOSTLY WITH THE A FIB. I HAD AN X RAY YESTERDAY BUT THE RESULTS DID NOT COME BACK BEFORE CLOSING TODAY SO I AM WORRIED THAT THE MEDS MIGHT DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. I AM 83 AND VERY AWARE OF MY HEALTH ISSUES AND PREFER NOT TO GO TO THE ER AGAIN. MAE
Dear Sir, Hi & Welcome. It appears to be drug Levaquin induced tendinopathy.
The most common side effects of the antibiotic Levaquin (Levofloxacin) include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and skin rash. Although rare however it can also cause tendon damage (such as tendinitis, tendon rupture) during or after treatment.
Based on the history given you seem to have developed teninitis. I advise you to stop taking Levaquin and consult your treating doctor right away to rule out suspected tendnitis or tendon rupture and to prescribe an alternate effective antibiotic to eradicate the infection if any.
Hope this will help. A feed back is appreciated.
