What Causes Swelling On Base Of Fingers?

I woke up a few days ago with the back of my right hand swollen from the base of my fingers to the wrist. When I flex my fingers upwards a lump raises up across the base of my hand and wrist that is higher on the outer edge of my hand and angles downward heading along the wrist below my thumb. Also with my palm open I can bend my wrist down palm towards forearm but when I make a fist I can t bend it forward at all. Not due to pain. I just can t physically do it. The pain goes from the back of my hand a few inches up my arm. X rays are clean. Please help.

Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.

Swelling can be due to rheumatoid arthritis.
If not relieved then possibility of polyarthritis needs to be considered.

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve small joints and early morning stiffness in joints, do you have such complain?

When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like RA factor, ACCP, ESR, complete blood count, HLA B27
