What Causes Swelling On Knee And Leg After An Injury?

I slipped on the stairs and fell on my right leg and knee. I did not hear anything pop but the inside of my knee is sore. My knee and leg is very slight swollen. My foot also may swell very slightly. I am walking but with a limp. I feel the effects of the trauma when I get into the car or sit for long periods of time. I am not in a lot of pain but it is uncomfortable. It has been four days and when I wake my leg is kinda stiff. I have been wrapping my leg but the sypmtoms are still there. Does this sound like something major?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to sprained muscle duethe injury. I suggest applying heat or ice to the sore area can help reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and improve movement. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories or pain relievers such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day might help if needed. I suggest to rest and avoid activities that can trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
