What Causes Swelling, Redness And Bumps Filled With Pus On The Foot?
My mom works with a 92 year man & she said that he has one foot thats swollen, red, & with bumps that have pus. He doesn't like to go to the doctor but his sister & daughter told my mom if there's an emergency to take him to the hospital. Can you tell me what is it that he has on his foot. Thanks
Well, he seems to be suffering from sort of infection of foot, which might be bacterial or fungal.
Mycetoma pedis is a fungal infection of the foot, which causes several boil like lesion discharging fluid. Investigation of the fluid is done to diagnose this. Presence of sulfur granules in the fluid indicates Mycetoma pedis.
It might also be a bacterial infection ( eg. staphylococcal / streptococcal ), in which case he urgently needs a course of antibiotics as well as local application of antibiotic cream.
I'd strongly suggest him to visit a dermatologist and get it examined as in either case, it needs early treatment.
Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.
With warm regards, Dr. Sridhar Reddy
