What Causes Swelling Under The Ear Despite A Normal Dental Examination?
I woke up and under my ear, side of face next to my ear and the area under my tongue are swollen. This happened one other time years ago and I went to the dentist thinking it might be a tooth issue but it wasn't. I can't remember if the dentist told me or I went to the doctor and they told me to take Mucinex. What do you think? The other time it happened I took Musinex and it cured the area and was fine. It was the same area before.
Your symptoms can either be due to Infection in the salivary gland or obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland.. Other cause can be Allergic reaction to some unknown allergen.. So it is better to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated.. An x ray of the gland and a blood test can be done for diagnosis.. For now if there is pain you can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.. Do cool compresses over the swelling..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
