What Causes Swelling, redness And Pain In Hand?

My husband has had pain, swelling, and redness in his hand for about 4 weeks. Urgent care and later, ER doc felt he had cellulitis. Primary said gout, neurologist said no. Surgeon said blood clot, but Doppler was negative. Any suggestion who to see next?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of your husband having redness and pain on hand, my treatment advice is -
1. Signs and symptoms of pain, swelling and redness point to inflammation and so my probable diagnosis is cellulitis.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream. Higher antibiotics like linezolid, amikacin needs to be started.
3. Oral NSAID like ibuprofen should be started twice daily.
4. It is better to consult a general surgeon for perfect protocol based treatment.

Thanks.
