Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen And Painful Knee After Knee Replacement Surgery?
I had a total rt knee replacement just one year ago. I am having a lot of pain and swelling as well as popping that is painful. I went to another orthopedic surgeon for an opinion rather than returning to the MD who did this surgery. He gave injections of steroids and said it was bursitis but that he also saw a nick that occurred during surgery on the Xray. He attempted to show this to me. Also recommended therapy and to return in 6 weeks. I am a retired RN on disability and only 60. Due to the debilitating arthritis I had to quit a job I loved. I also need a total left knee replacement as it is bone on bone and also very painful. I also had a lumbar microdisectomy a year ago and at first I felt great and now my back is killing me as well. I have been to many doctors trying to get fixed so that I could return to work prior to throwing the towel in and accepting what is now my new life. 2 yrs ago I was in Italy on vacation, bought a new car, had money in the bank and a job I absolutely loved. And now my life has changed drastically. 2 yrs ago I had mild arthritis and now I am disabled. I have fibromyalgia as well. I went in for a cardiac stress test and as a result had a thyroid biopsy for nodules they saw and need a liver biopsy for elevated enzymes. Of course I have high blood pressure/cholesterol etc. I just want to be able to live without all of this pain. Went to pain management and instead of a consult they were throwing me on a cardiac monitor to give me what would have been monthly epidurals. I left that place. The 2nd pain management wants to surgically implant a pain pump. So I have trust issues due to all of the unfortunate new health diagnosis I have been trying to deal with. Can you please help me with the stryker knee issue? I don t think I should be feeling this poor after only one year post knee replacement. Thank you very much. What a wonderful web sight. Sandy

Usually it should not pain just after 1year of total knee replacement. I suggest you not to fold your knee extremely. And for swelling do use cold pack regularly. As off now I can only suggest for symptomatic relief only and that will be done with regular use of cold pack. But I believe once the inflammation comes down and then you start again knee strengthening exercise it will become all right.. Take care and do post here if there is any further issue.
