What Causes Swollen Area Under The Tongue?

I was brushing my teeth just earlier, and I noticed something odd. The area under my tongue where the veins lie was unusually swollen, just around the purple vein. It looks a little lumpy and it's more noticeable on the left hand side. I was wondering if it was anything, or if I just made it sore somehow and it swelled up? Thank you for your time.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain a swollen area under the tongue which is appearing as a small lump and looking around a purple vein seems to be a Mucocele and is formed either due to clogged duct of the minor salivary gland or due to rupture of the duct of the gland leading to formation of a small lump which can be either purple in colour or can be of the colour of the normal mucosa..

Nothing to worry, as most of the mucoceles are self resolving and doing concentrated salt water gargles can help in shrinking the lump..
In case if it does not reduce in size consult an Oral surgeon and after a complete clinical checkup he can remove it surgically..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
