Earlier today i was eating peanuts. After a few bites i felt pain on the left side of my throat and a sharp pain every time that i swallowed. an hour or so later i noticed that my neck ( left side) is visably swollen. Is this normal? did i pull a muscle in my throat??
Your short history of swelling in left side of neck on few bites of peanuts can most probably be due to one of the following reasons: * Peanut allergy if you have one * Incidental increase in pre-existing abscess or so * Rupture of a blood vessel due to any sudden movement can cause similar swelling * Edema or spasm of sterocleidomastoid muscle, known to occur not infrequently * development of any arteriovenous malformation
Consult your doctor at his consulting room or at ER immediately and insist for clinical examination and ultrasound with color Doppler examination or CT scan or MRI whichever is possible to know the exact cause so that an appropriate management can be done by your Doctor.
