this is the second time this has happened to me in the last 6 months, both times during or shortly after exercising. The right side of my tongue swells up and it feels like the left side of my jaw goes slightly numb. Otherwise I feel completely fine. The first time I had passed it off as an allergic reaction and took some Benadryl. I did not do this the second time but eventually the swelling did go down within 2 hours after it had happened. What could cause this?
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The swelling over the tongue soon after excercise can be secondary allergic reaction on exposure to allergens. The second possible cause can be arterovenous malformation of the tongue. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to get a Contrast CT of the tongue or MRI done to confirm the diagnosis. If it is allergic reaction, you can take antihistamines like cetrizine. If it is arterovenous malformation, we can treat with sclerosing agents. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
