Hello doctor, I am 30 years old, female.I have 2 kids.Younger one is 1 yr old.During my 2nd pregnancy i have tasteless tonue and nausea. After delivered her also the same problem is going on.i couldn t taste everything with the real taste..I don t like to eat...can you tell me what is my proplem?
I can understand your concern. Loss of taste during and after pregnancy is a very common finding. The reason is that that the blood flow in your body increases a lot. So any stimulus that has to reach from blood to brain increases much faster than it used to before pregnancy. Same goes for taste sensation. Your brain reacts very strongly to the sensation of taste and you are not used to such reaction which makes you feel no taste in any food. In addition, some food or beverages, like tea, coffee or carbonated drink may give you metallic taste. It is a way your body is trying to tell you not to take these food. So avoid food which gives you metallic taste, if any.
Now, what you can do to find some taste in food is, take out the food in plate at least 15 minutes before you eat. Thus, the food will be oxidized in air and it will have less intensity of taste making it just right for your taste sensation. If that does not help, you should contact your gynecologist to rule out food poisoning or other pregnancy related condition.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish you feel taste soon!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
