Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a spinal trauma from an accident 9 years ago. A 20-30lb bag of compressed pet bedding fell on my head & snapped my neck back which resulted in temporary paralysis of my left arm & a c4c5 herniation. I had an anterior disectomy with fusion. A year & half later my c3c4 weakened so much that I needed another fusion. Since then I have been diagnosed with RA & fibromyalgia. I now have 2 arthritic herniation below my c5. I was also told I have osteo arthritis & spinal stenosis. Unfortunately I have been on a lot of anti inflammatories & Humira for a long time & now have 4 ulcers & some liver problems. So I stopped all meds because my stomach was so bad, it has been since July 2014 since I was on anything. My rheumatologist just diagnosed me with fibromyalgia & put me on Neurontin but it just aggravated my ulcers. I have been having severe arm pain that is radiating to my shoulder & neck. I can lift my left arm by the elbow but not by the shoulder without extruiting pain. Do you think this pain is related to the herniations & also what medicine can I even take to help with this pain that won t affect my stomach. I am just shy of 48 & do not want to live this
hello I would suggest wearing cervical collar and traction of neck in four post collar for 1/2 hours daily for 10 days,In view of ulcers, use muscle relaxant gel/creams for local application and try dolo neurobion tab daily.Supportof shoulder arm in a broad cuff collar sling to take weight off the shoulder-neck region.Traction will relieve nerve compression and pain/alteratively hydrocodone/oxycodone may be tried for pain relief under cover of Rabeprazole for ulcer.consult your doctor if he agrees for advises by me
