Had a lumpectomy a month ago. Incision JUST starting draining a thick pus, and is now draining orange liquid. The breast is tender. I have to replace the gauze a few times a day. What is causing this? Would heat or ice be beneficial for the pain.
hello, this is a situation where the wound has become infected . thick pus indicates poor healing and deep infection. the breast must be locally warm and tender to touch.
there is no way that hot or cold fomentation can be helpful as the only way out s draining the pus out through reopening the incision and following it up with regular betadine dressing and antibiotic cover for atleast 7-10 days.
