What Causes Tender Breasts After Having Copper IUD?

I have had a copper iud for 3 1/2 years since my daughters birth. I have regular periods, nothing out of the ordinary. About a week before my expected period I have been experiencing very sensitive and swollen breasts. They feel exactly how they felt when I was pregnant for both of my children. This has not happened for the duration of my having my iud. My breasts are hard and my areola is dark. Is it possible to get pregnant 3 years when the suggested time of removal is 3-5 years?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
* CU T is a barrier type of contraceptive avoiding implantation of embryo in uterine cavity. It is not concerned with irregularities of menstrual cycle/ breast changes.
* Please check the papers on the date of insertion. I am afraid, the time of removal is 3 years only. If not removed in time ,pregnancy is possible.
* Sometimes hormonal imbalance in woman body may cause irregular periods & breast symptoms.
- get blood pregnancy test done around expected date of your coming period. / consult a gynecologist for treating hormonal imbalance.
Thanks.
