I have been on a whey protien shake diet for about two months. A few days ago I started having redness and very tender gums along with the inner part of my lips. I was using Colgate Optic white so I changed back to Crest thinking it might be the toothpaste. Shake twice and a meal daily. What is cousing this sourness? Some kind of fungus?
Hello, thank you for consulting with healthcaremagic. It can be possible that due to this restricted diet there might be a deficiency of vitamin C, that is why you are feeling this kind of soreness and redness of gums. You should once visit your dentist and get oral prophylaxis of gums done with supplement of vitamin C once daily for 1 month. Hope it will help you.
Hello, Any type of change in diet can be a stress to your system and require time to establish balance. I am more suspect of the whitening toothpaste because some patients cannot tolerate these products. and you report changes to the lips as well as your gums. I need more details on the timing of using the Optic White toothpaste to comment further. You will need time to evaluate if changing products will help improve your condition. It is a good choice to eliminate any recent new products and monitor results. Make sure you have overall proper nutrition and balanced vitamins with no deficiencies. Your oral health can experience changes with vitamin deficiencies. Evaluate your intake of vitamin B12. Keep well hydrated. Consider making a dental appointment for further evaluation especially if you suspect a fungal infection. Taking Acidophilus can help maintain bacteria balance. A prescription for Nystatin will treat oral fungal infections. Soreness, coating on your tongue and decreased taste can be symptoms of oral yeast infections. I hope my suggestions are helpful and that you will feel better soon. Thank you for your inquiry.
