Hello,

There are many reasons for protein in the urine which can be broadly classified into Nephrotic and Nephritic syndrome and further subdivision depending upon various clinical symptoms, supportive lab data results.

Grossly speaking, at 8 years age, there can be a most common cause of protein in urine without symptoms or minor symptoms may relate to Minimal change disease or Lipoid nephrosis and second most common cause is Post streptococcal glomerulonephritis following streptococcal or staph infection of the skin.

Kindly provide further details of symptoms or lab data so that better guidelines can be forwarded.
