What Causes Thick String Of Blood During Periods?

Hello, it is the first day of my period this month and I noticed a thick string of blood when I went to the bathroom. I've seen something similar to this before, but this looked different. When I examined it, it almost looks like some sort of blood or tissue that is covered in blood. What could this be?
