What Causes Thick Yellow Mucous From Vagina?

Today when I went to the bathroom and I wiped I kept feeling like something was coming out of me I looked down and there was a large clump of a thick yellowish mucous and when I pulled on it I felt it coming out of my vagina. I have never had anything like that happen before. Should I be concerned?
