General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of severe pain in throat and difficulty in breathing, no tonsillitis, no strep throat as per your thoughts, extreme congestion and wants to know whether to see a Doctor.
As per the history you have provided this can be severe form of pharyngitis and causing so much congestion that there is difficulty in breathing too, further indicating spread of edema, infection to chest like bronchitis or so.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Surely yes, consult your Doctor immediately for clinical evaluation, examiantion, tests of blood and that of throat swab to be done.
Get started on appropriate antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and such medicines that can help to relieve the problem and also gives cure.
You may need a long course of medicines.
Do Liquid Povidone Iodine gargles.
Plenty of warm fluids.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General and ENT Surgeon
