What Causes Throat Pain When I Swallow?

I am a 43 year old African American woman. I have pain in my throat right in the crease of the neck. It is right in the bend of the neck. It would be above my adams apple (if I had one). It hurts to the touch and when I swallow. I am hoarse in the morning but it goes away.
