What Causes Throat Pain While Eating Food?

My wife suffers from several problems, right now her stomach is giving her problems. When she eats she has problems making her food go down. Her throat will hurt and she has to use water to make her food go down. Soon after she will have a burning sensation in her stomach. She also has problems with her lungs, asthma I think. She has been told she has an hiatal hernia. Right now the biggest problem is the burning in her stomach.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

She may be suffering from acute pharyngitis, xerostomia, or GERD with esophagitis etcetera. Until examination done, it is difficult to say what it is.

Advice to take soft diet, avoid spicy food and caffeinated drinks.

Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. If symptoms not improved, then please consult your gastroenterologist he will do the endoscopy and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
