Hi. For throat pain and dysphagia to occur together there needs to be a reason for pain in the throat region. This could either be due to an infection or due to an
injury.
Looking at your symptoms it appears like there has been some injury in your throat, upper food pipe region (cricopharynx). Injury to your throat ( coughing, shouting, sharp food particle injury during swallowing) will present in the same manner as something stuck in the throat. The body cannot differentiate between these two feelings. Pain due to such injuries usually correlate to the region of the collar bone. If you can swallow with a bit of pain and are able to drink fluids then you probably do not have anything stuck in your throat or
esophagus. If you cannot even swallow your saliva and it is so painful that you cannot move your neck then that can be suggestive of something actually stuck in your throat or esophagus (food particle,
bone chip etc).
I would suggest that you give your esophagus and throat some time to heal and you should be fine in a day or two. Continue soft and bland meals with plenty of fluids (up to 2 litres per day). If you develop
fever and pain in your chest or between your shoulder blades or if your pain worsens and voice becomes hoarse then you will need to visit the hospital or see an
ENT Specialist for management of the infection.
Your symptoms can also be due to a tender
lymph node in the neck (due to a
throat infection) which can explain worsening of pain when moving your neck. See an ENT specialist if you start feeling a lump in the neck which is painful.
Do let me know if there is any other question that I can answer.
Hoping for a speedy recovery.
