What Causes Tickling In Throat And Coughing After Eating Food?

I am a 31 years old, 6 foot male. I have recently been diagnosed with IBS but I have a very frustrating problem and I would love some advice.
Since October last year (9 months now) I get this tickle in my throat that compels me to cough. It's normally worse at night and worse if I eat certain foods. I have discovered that food with lots of sugar in it makes it worse. In the mornings I normally cough up some stringy jelly like mucus. If I have alcohol, I cough as though i have asthma. I have never suffered from any of these symptoms before.
I went on a detox where i eliminated all wheat, sugar, processed foods, alcohol, etc about a month before this started so I don't know if this has had any effect?
My IBS is mild and when all this started, i wasn't taking any medication or anything.
If you could help me know what's wrong and what i can do to sort it out, I would be most grateful.

Hi, you have GERD. The ticklish feeling is because liquid from stomach comes up through the lax food pipe. This can overflow into the throat especially when we sleep and sets off an attack of cough. Answer lies in eating an early and light dinner, avoiding alcohol, colas, chocolates, non-vegetarian foods, garlic, radish tea coffee--in short all things difficult to digest or those that generate upward eructations. Regards
